Like promised, Disney and
Lucasfilm have unveiled a brand new poster for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The
Force Awakens and there is plenty to absorb like the fact that Lucasfilm and
Abrams are obviously keeping Mark Hamill hidden from all promotional materials,
that Carrie Fisher has a new hairdo (let's see if it rivals the buns), that Rey
played by Daisy Ridley is front and center, or that Finn (John Boyega) is once
again seen wielding a lightsaber. However, the more intriguing parts of the poster are
the inclusions of Teedo (behind R2-D2), and what I believe is Starkiller Base (behind Finn).
Teedo is a small, brutish scavenger that roams Jakku’s vast
wasteland on his semi-mechanical Luggabeast, a semi-mechanical creature covered in
heavy armor plating. I somehow assumed he would be a small character that
Rey meets on the planet, but since he has been given a spot on the new poster we
better start paying him some attention.
Starkiller Base is an ice planet that
was converted into a stronghold by the First Order that armed it with
a fiercely destructive new weapon capable of destroying entire star systems,
which seem to match with the partial look offered in the poster.
Opening on December 18, Star Wars: The Force Awakens also
stars Harrison Ford, Domnhall Gleason, Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie, Max
von Sydow, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Peter
Mayhew, Kenny Baker, Crystal Clarke, and Pip Andersen.
