Miguel Arteta (Youth
in Revolt, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day) is set
to direct Elle Fanning (Maleficent) in the upcoming adaptation of author
Jennifer Niven's young adult novel, All the Bright Places, which the author
will adapt.
Described as a mix between
The Fault in Our Stars and Eleanor & Park, All the Bright Places centers on
Theodor Finch, a young man fascinated
by death, who is constantly thinking of ways he might kill himself. But each
time, something good, no matter how small, stops him, and Violet Markley (Fanning), a young woman who lives for the future, and who is counting
the days until graduation, when she can finally escape her Indiana town and her
aching grief over the recent death of her sister.

"All the Bright Places is a very personal story for me. Mazur/Kaplan, Miguel,
and Demarest Media have given the book and me the most wonderfully supportive,
creative home, and they are as invested in Finch and Violet as I am,"
Niven said in a statement.
Production is expected to begin in the Spring of 2016.
