Last month we learned that Paramount Pictures was assembling
a think tank of sorts for their Transformers franchise with Akiva Goldsman spearheading
the effort to create a cohesive cinematic universe for the franchise. Today during an earnings call, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner
confirmed that the plan is to come up with a story for Transformers 5, as well
as sequels and spinoffs.
Our plan with the studio and filmmakers you may have
heard some writers being hired and we have in fact brought in Akiva Goldsman to
lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers. We
think there are any number of stories to be told from the brand that has been
around for 30 years with amazing canon and mythology. We would expect the
sequel to the Transformers movie [TF4] to happen in 2017.
There have been multiple reports stating that Michael
Bay will direct and won't direct the next Transformers film, so at this point
it's impossible to say for sure whether he will return or not. His last entry
in the franchise managed to pass the $1 billion at the worldwide box-office, despite
being panned by critics and most audiences alike.
