Keeping
in line with the decision to remake or readapt their classic animated feature
films into live-action, Disney has tapped Fifty Shades of Grey scribe Kelly
Marcel to pen their live-action film based on the 101 Dalmatians villain,
Cruella de Vil.
According
to The Hollywood Reporter the studio is fast tracking the project so it could
follow those that have already been scheduled like Jon Favreau's The Jungle
Book (April 15, 2016), Tim Burton's sequel Alice Through the
Looking Glass (May 27, 2016) and Bill Condon's Beauty and the
Beast (March 17, 2017).
Cruella first stepped
from under a rock in Dodie Smith's 1956 novel, The Hundred and One Dalmatians,
but only achieve her villain icon status in Disney's 1961 animated movie.
Whoever ends up playing the dastardly character will have to stand up next to
Glenn Close, who played the character in the 1996 live-action movie and in the
2000 sequel.
Other live-action
movies being planned by Disney include Tink starring Reese Witherspoon, Mulan,
Dumbo with Tim Burton attached to direct, and Sword in the Stone.
