And
here I thought we were done with this franchise, but apparently I was wrong,
and a new installment in the franchise is already taking shape. According to
reports, The Expendables 4 will begin production in 2016 for a 2017 release. No
director or cast has yet been announced, but it hard not to picture at the very
least Sylvester Stallone retuning to the franchise he shouldered.
Looking
at the numbers of the previous movie, I'm amazed that they are going for
another entry in the franchise. The Expendables 3 had an abysmal domestic box
office gross, and a not particularly stellar international one, with the
exception of China where the movie found its legs and ran with them to a $70 million gross. This and the fact that the producers recently inked a deal
with Chinese partners to distribute the next movie in the country are the major
driving forces for The Expendables 4.
