Back in June a rumor about Marvel canceling the
Fantastic Four comic in response to some bad blood between them and Fox's rights
over Fantastic Four and side characters like Galactus and Silver Surfer
surfaced. I have to confess that at the time the idea of Marvel canceling their
run of the Fantastic Four because of movie rights felt made-up, and if true,
childish and ineffective. I mean, more people will probably end up seeing director
Josh Trank's Fantastic Four cinematic reboot then the current run of the FF has
readers, meaning the movie was going to be the one ultimatly helping the comic and not the
other way around.
Well childish or not, it looks like the current run of
the FF is going to end sooner than expected, and all thanks to Disney's biggest
shareholder and Marvel CEO, Isaac Permutter. According to Bleeding Cool, Permutter
is a bit ticked off about the broken negotiations with Fox, where Marvel tried
to acquired the rights to Galactus and Silver Surfer and in exchange they would
let Fox keep Daredevil. His answer? Cancel not only the comic, but also all
merchandising and other licensing's, like Mondo or Diamond Select Toys.
BC managed to get their hands on a solicitation that
proves that the current FF book will be ending around April of next year,
months before the upcoming Fantastic Four film.
THE END IS FOUREVER! Witness the closing act on the
First Family of the Marvel Universe! THE INVADERS meet the FANTASTIC FOUR as
the hunt for REED RICHARDS and the missing kids of the FUTURE FOUNDATION
continues. Meanwhile the mastermind behind everything unveils his ultimate
plan. But how does FRANKLIN RICHARDS factor in? And how does this all lead
to…The END?! Collecting FANTASTIC FOUR #642-644 and the Triple Sized Final
Issue 645!
Sue Storm and Reed Richards have already jumped to The
Avengers book, the Time Runs Out story, but no Grimm or Johnny.
At any rate, the ones that will suffer the most by
this decision will be the current fans and those that the comic would have won
with the help of the film.
As always, take it with a grain of salt, not the cancelation
but the reason for it.
