Before achieving worldwide recognition with Batman, director Tim Burton first made offbeat, weird comedies like Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure or his 1988 classic Beetlejuice, starring Michael Keaton as the titular character, Winona Ryder, Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin.
The
last I heard from a possible sequel, was from writers David Katzenberg (Gremlins
and It remakes producer) and Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire
Hunter), who said they were still working on the script, which apparently had
not only the blessings from Tim Burton, but sparkled an interest from stars
Geena Davis and Winona Ryder.
Now according
to some reports director Tim Burton passed the blessing stage and is now
interested in directing the sequel.
Per
a “very reliable” and anonymous source at SK, director Tim Burton is definitely
interested in directing the sequel:
“…we
can happily confirm that Tim Burton IS looking to direct the sequel himself. No
word yet on scheduling or if the movie is near a green light in the development
phase. What we know is that Burton wants to do both ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home For
Peculiar Children’ and the new ‘Beetlejuice.’ “
After
the not so successful Dark Shadows, Burton bounced back with a more up is alley
type of film, the Frankenweenie animation, and his now working on the low
budget art-world biopic Big Eyes.
If
the rumors are to be trusted, it would be great, because Beetlejuice is still
very much a fan favorite and considered a classic in its genre.
