If you go to writer/producer/director Sam Reimi’s IMDB profile you would notice the “lack of scheduled ” work, except in the writing department where he seems to be working on a little known film called Army of Darkness 2.
For the
unaware, Army of Darkness featured actor Bruce Campbell as Ashley “Ash” J.
Williams, a “one hand”, one-liner man who is accidentally transported to 1300
A.D. where he must fight an army of the dead and retrieve the Necronomicon book so he
can return home.
Last
year the beloved franchise got a boost after director Fede Alvarez made a
remake of the original film by Reimi, The Evil Dead. The film scored high on
the box-office and with critics, which maybe prompted Reimi to re-think the
whole Evil Dead situation.
While
speaking at Wondercon earlier this year, director Fede Alvarez confirmed that
Reimi is working on Army of Darkness 2 and revealed that there are plans to
extend the franchise to a seventh film, which takes place after Armey of
Darkness 2 and the rebooted Evil Dead 2, and although things seem to be long
ways a way, with Army of Darkness 2 rumored to be released in 2016, actor Bruce
Campbell has confirmed his appearance in the film.
While
speaking at Wizard World Nashville Comic Con, the actor said:
“The
last one was 22 years ago. I just haven’t been racing to do it. Sam Raimi is
just a little bit busy making the biggest movies in Hollywood. I use to be
busy. Now I’m not. That’s why I’m here.”
“Ash
would have to stop occasionally from chasing some deadite to catch his breath.
Maybe we could do that, I guess. That would be exciting. Fight in a walker.
That would be all right. Hit them with my cane. Fake them out, have a fake
heart attack, distract a zombie. I like it… [Seriously] All right, sir, the
answer is yes.”
Well
as a fan of the franchise and of Campbell, I’m ecstatic, are you?
