20th Century Fox has
picked up Universal Studio's feature film adaptation of the Hasbro board game Clue.
Back in 2011
Universal and Hasbro joined forces to create a series of game-to-movie movie adaptations
of some of the game giant properties, however things got off on the wrong foot
with Battleship in 2012. Despite that, the Clue movie marched on with Pirates
of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski set to direct from a script that had
been in development for a few years. The project fell apart, and now 20th
Century Fox has picked up the property.
According to The
Tracking Board, 20th Century Fox is developing Clue with Josh Feldman attached
to produce for Hasbro, and Ryan Jones serving as executive producer.
The project is still
in the early stages of development, but it seems that the plan for now is to
scale it and create a "worldwide mystery" franchise with "action-adventure
elements" akin to Ocean's Eleven or Now You See Me.
In 1985 Jonathan Lynn
("My Cousin Vinny") directed a successful Clue adaptation from a
script by John Landis ("Animal House") and starring Tim Curry,
Madeline Kahn, Eileen Brennan, Martin Mull, Michael McKean, Christopher Lloyd, Leslie
Ann Warren, Lee Ving, and Colleen Camp.
