With production on the much
anticipated The Incredibles 2 moving at a much faster rate than the one of Toy
Story 4, Pixar has decided to switch their intended release dates.
The Incredibles 2 will now
open on June 15, 2018, while Toy Story 4 won't reach theaters until June 21,
2019.
Two-time Academy Awards nominated
director Brad Bird ("The Incredibles," "Ratatouille")
returns to helm The Incredibles 2, as is Oscar-winning composer Michael
Giacchino.
As for Toy Story 4, John Lasseter
returns to director's chair to helm what will be the studio's first ever "romantic
comedy," with Rashida Jones and Will McCormack penning the script based on
a story by Pete Docter, Andrew Stanton, Lee Unkrich, and Lasseter.
Though not predominant, Pixar has
not shy away of delving into the sometimes murky waters of sequels. Out of 21
films (including future releases), the studio has produced eight sequels,
including Toy Story 2 and 3, Cars 2, Monsters University, Finding Dory, and
Cars 3, which has been scheduled to open in theaters on June 16, 2017.
