Warner Bros. has released a new image from Patty Jenkins' (Monster)
highly anticipated Wonder Woman standalone movie featuring Gal Gadot as the
titular superhero, as well as few other warriors and family members that helped
shape a young Princess Diana into one of the greatest heroes of all-time.
Princess Diana's road into becoming a full fledge warrior known as Wonder
Woman was paved by a few different characters including Diana's mother, Queen
Hippolyta played by Connie Nielsen (Gladiator), and her two military aunts,
General Antiope played by Robin Wright (House of Cards) and Antiope's
lieutenant, Menalippe played by Lisa Loven Kongsli (Force Majeure).
The trio of immortal warriors is the ones responsible for both raising and
training Diana, but they do not always see eye to eye on how to do it. Hippolyta
is a revolutionary leader that wishes to shelter her beloved daughter from the
outside world and the problems of men, but Antiope, who effectively trained Diana,
wants to prepare her for the future.
"She
is the only child they raised together," the filmmaker says. "And
their love for her manifests in a different way for each of them."
Also starring Chris Pine, Danny Huston, David Thewlis, Ewen Bremner, Saïd
Taghmaoui, Elena Anaya, and Lucy Davis, Wonder Woman opens in theaters on June
23, 2017.
