20th Century
Fox has released the first images from Tim Burton's latest fantasy film, Miss
Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.
The movie,
which is based on Ransom Riggs best-selling novel of the same
name, stars Asa Butterfield as Jake,
a 16-year-boy plagued with nightmares following a family tragedy, who is told
by his therapist to go on a journey to find an abandoned orphanage where his
late grandfather claimed he once lived. There, Jake discovers that the place
acts as a magical gateway to an alternate world where children with peculiarities (powers) are
taken care of by a magical guardian played by Eva Green, who protects the
children from monsters known as hollows.
Speaking to Entertainment
Weekly, Burton describes Eva Green's titular character as a "scary Mary
Poppins" who can turn into a bird. In fact she can turned into all sorts of
things since she is a shape-shifter known as an ymbryne.
Opening on September 30, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Judi Dench, Allison Janney, Rupert Everett, Terence
Stamp, Kim Dickens, Ella Purnell, Thomas and Joseph Odwell, Lauren McCrostie,
Pixie Davis, and Cameron King.
From visionary director Tim Burton, and based upon the best-selling novel,
comes an unforgettable motion picture experience. When his beloved
grandfather leaves Jake clues to a mystery that spans different worlds and
times, he finds a magical place known as Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar
Children. But the mystery and danger deepen as he gets to know the residents
and learns about their special powers… and their powerful enemies. Ultimately,
Jake discovers that only his own special “peculiarity” can save his new
friends.
