Paramount
Pictures and MGM have tapped Big Bad Wolves directors Aharon Keshales and Navot
Papushado to direct Bruce Willis in the Death Wish remake, an on-and-off
project that had directors like Gerard Naranjo (Miss Bala), and Joe Carnahan (The
Grey) attached but that never got off the ground.
Death Wish is
a grimy '70s film franchise starring Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey, a mild-mannered
architect who decides to pick up a gun and "clean" the streets of the thugs who raped and murdered his wife and daughter. The movie itself is
based on a 1972 novel written by Brian Garfield.
The role seems
perfect for Willis should he give two-fucks about actually working for his paycheck
and not sleepwalk through it. Will we get Willis from Looper or Willis from A
Good Day to Die Hard?
Another point
of contention is the hiring of Keshales and Papushado, two Israeli filmmakers who
are making their "big" Hollywood debut. Do they have a vision
supported by both studios, or are they just hired guns that will machinegun
through hoping the movie turns out to be something vaguely good to warrant a
sequel?
