After rumors
that Universal was eyeing J.A. Bayona to direct the sequel to Jurassic World,
Paramount Pictures started smelling the fumes coming from their cooperate behinds,
and despite having already locked the director to helm World War Z 2, they
swiftly began to look for a new writer to give some momentum back to the
project.
Dennis Kelly,
the creator of the geek friendly British TV show Utopia, has been hired by the
studio to write a new draft of the script for the upcoming sequel to the Brad
Pitt led zombie apocalypse drama. Steven Knight (Locke) penned the previous
draft.
The Utopia Experiments is a legendary graphic novel shrouded in mystery.
When a group of strangers find themselves in possession of an original
manuscript, their lives suddenly and brutally implode as they are pursued by a shadowy
and murderous organisation.
World War Z was loosely based on a novel of the same
name by Max Brook's and "adapted" by Matthew
Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, Damon Lindelof, and J. Michael
Straczynski.
Paramount's
quickness to find a writer was probably to avoid repeating history. Directed by
Marc Forster, the 2013 movie had to overcome big problems, including script
problems, which led to extensive and expensive re-shoots of the third act. Nonetheless,
the movie went on to earn $540 million worldwide.
World War Z 2
is scheduled to hit theaters on June 9, 2017.
