For his next sleight
of hand, filmmaker extraordinaire Wes Anderson has decided to return to
stop-motion animation after his adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Fantastic Mr.
Fox. Details about the project are being kept under wraps for now, but
according to Indiewire, the film will be centered on dogs. The joke of Anderson
directing a movie focused on dogs I'm sure won't be lost on many of his fans.
The director, like Indiewire noted, has a habit of either killing or injure
men's best friend in his movies.
Last year at the
Lisboa & Estoril Film Festival, which I was fortunate to attend, the
filmmaker revealed that he was working on a project influenced by Italian
director Vittorio De Sica's anthology film, The Gold of Naples, however it
seems that this and the yet untitled stop-motion film are two different
projects.
Stop-motion animation
has been one of the key components of Anderson's visual repertoire, which also includes
a deadeye for symmetry, practical sets, miniatures, and very interesting color
palette.
The new project is
already in pre-production.
