Wallowing on the
success of Blindspot, NBC has decided to give a Back 9 Pickup to the series
starring Lady Sif, meaning they have given the show a full 22-episode season
order. Blindspot drove huge ratings to the peacock network in both live and
Live+3 (DV-R and streaming), hitting on average a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demo,
and 9.6 million viewers, which considering the landscape of TV it's pretty big.
Blindspot stars Jamie
Alexander as mysterious woman who has lost her memories, and whose extensive
tattoos are clues for the FBI to solve in order to stop crimes.
On the contrary, Fox
being Fox has decided to take the axe to yet another sci-fi show, Minority
Report. The network's history with sci-fi programming is well known, so it
wasn't a huge surprise to hear that they have decided to only commit to a
10-episode season. Truth be told, the series has been struggling with ratings
ever since its debut, hitting a low point in their key 18-49 demographic of 0.7
in live viewings, though they have picked up slightly in the L+3, but not in a
big enough way that it would justify a bigger season, or (and be ready), being
renewed for a second season.
Minority report is a
sequel to the 2002 film starring Tom Cruise, where a precog named Dash (Stark Sands) struggles
to lead a ‘normal’ human life while haunted by visions of the future. He meets
detective Lara Vega (Meagan Good), who haunted by her own past may just be the
help he needs to find a purpose to his extraordinary gift.
Also on the news the
Halle Berry starring sci-fi drama series Extant on CBS has been cancelled after
just two seasons, but the actress will continue to work with the network on an
upcoming titled Legalease, which she will executive produce.
