Last year while Marvel was presenting their Phase 3 plans at the El Capitan Theater in Los Angeles, many including me, were
hoping to hear Marvel Studio's head honcho Kevin Feige announce that your
friendly neighborhood Spider-Man was on his way to the MCU. That obviously
didn't happen at the time, and we only received confirmation that both Marvel
and Sony had reached a deal regarding the use of the character some time later
when the their slate was already formed, so it begs the question, how much
having Spider-Man come in altered Marvel's already laid out plans?
As you might have imagined, that had been in the works for a long, long,
long, long time. And we had, as we often do, mapped out various alternatives if
things don’t happen. So we had a plan how it would continue without him and we
have a plan how now it will continue with him. I wouldn’t say it was “drastic”
but we were certainly happy when it all came together.
With the exception of a couple of setbacks, Marvel is undeniably on the top
of their game not only in the films they are producing and the shared cinematic
universe they are weaving, but also in the amount preparation it takes to make
it all work.
