While last year audiences were admiring the return of
the King of Monsters to US soil after Roland Emmerich botched attempt in 1998, Toho
announced that they were eyeing 2016 for a new Godzilla film. No additional
information was given at the time, but now the company has unveiled the first
teaser image for the film, as well as announced who they have tapped to bring
Godzilla back to Japan. Toho has announced that Evangelion director Anno
Hideaki will be writing and directing the upcoming film.
Toho's film is a welcoming addition to the franchise, especially
since Edwards' sequel will only hit theaters in June 8, 2018, after his work on
Star Wars: Rogue One is completed.
Not much about Toho's version is known at this time,
but Edward's sequel will feature Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah.
