Sometime
ago we posted that David Fincher (Seven, The Social Network and The Girl with
the Dragon Tattoo) had been working on the script for a reboot of the Disney
Classic 20,000 League Under The Sea.
The
project begun moving forward with news that Fincher was after Brad Pitt for the
main role, but after Pitt passed on the role for the WWII film Fury, by David
Ayer, the film lost momentum and came to a halt. Then there were news that
Australia had agreed to a big tax incentive, off 22.5 million dollars, so
Fincher would shoot the film in the country, but not even this was enough to
overcome the fact that the project was missing a cast, so the production was
delayed until 2014.
Some
reports say that the reason why the production was delayed until next year,
instead of next month was due to a lack of cast and lack of permission, since
Disney hadn’t greenlighted the film.
The
reason for the empty seats in the cast, is that all the actor Fincher wanted
weren’t immediately available, for example there was some talking about
bringing Channing Tatum for the role Pitt had passed, but because of a busy
schedule he couldn’t sign on to the project. So apparently Fincher is waiting
for the actors schedule to be free so he can begin shooting his remake of
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
But
don’t despair Fincher fans, because he recently took on the job of directing
the Gillian Flynn adaptation of Gone Girl, which he should begin shooting this
year.
