TNT announced Wednesday that Hamilton star Daveed
Diggs is set to lead their adaptation of Bong Joon Ho's sci-fi film
Snowpiercer, which in turn was based on Le Transperceneige, a French graphic
novel created by Jacques Lob, Bejamin Legrand, and Jean-Marc Rochette.
The series takes place in a future
where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off
all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snow Piercer, a train
that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion
engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.
Diggs will play Layton Well, "a prisoner barely surviving the harsh conditions
in the tail end of the train. A quiet thinker who spends his days sniffing the
industrial-waste-turned-drug Chronole and tending to his cage full of rats,
Layton becomes a reluctant participant in a struggle that could upend life on
the train."
Diggs' other credits include roles on The
Get Down, Black-ish, and Law & Order: SVU.
Scott Derrickson ("Marvel's Doctor Strange")
will direct the pilot and serve as an executive producer along with writer and
showrunner Josh Friedman ("Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles"),
Marty Adelstein ("Prison Break"), and Beck Clements ("Good
Behavior").
Joon Ho and Snowpiercer producers and co-producers Park
Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun, and Dooho Choi also act as EP.
