Even
though not much time has elapsed since its last and final installment, the
Resident Evil movie franchise is being prepped for a new coat of paint.
While
at the Cannes Film Festival, Variety spoke with chairman of the board at
Constantin Film about the critic-proof movie series and he revealed that a
reboot of the profitable franchise is currently in development at the giant
German production company, which owns the rights to the franchise and has
produced all six of its movies.
With
this year's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (the last movie), the video game
based movie franchise grossed over $1.2 billion worldwide, making the highest
grossing film series to be based on a video game.
Based
on the Capcom video game series of the same name, all six movies star Milla
Jovovich in the central role, with her husband Paul W.S. Anderson writing all
and directing four.
Details
such as director(s) and star(s) are being kept under wraps.
