20th Century Fox has
confirmed Ridley Scott's recent change of title for the upcoming Prometheus
sequel with the release of the film's synopsis, which doesn't go beyond of what
the filmmaker had previously revealed about the second installment in the
prequel trilogy to Alien, except in one little detail.
Ridley Scott returns
to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in
a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s
1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side
of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think
is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole
inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the
doomed Prometheus expedition.
Where is Noomi Rapace?
Prometheus ended with David and Elizabeth (Rapace) driving off into that bleak sunset, so where could she have gone to?
Scott previously said that David and Elizabeth would be rescued by a group travelers and that they would go to the Engineers home world in search of answers. So what changed? Did the actress decided not to return, or has Scott decided to kill off the character?
The Alien franchise has always had a strong female lead, so unless the filmmaker suddenly decided to focus the movie on Michael Fassbender, I would imagine that someone new, perhaps a crewmember of the colony ship Covenant?
Alien: Covenant lands in theaters on October 6, 2017.
