Paramount Pictures
has released the first image of Liam Neeson in Martin Scorsese's
long-in-development period drama, Silence, which producers are praying to get a
chance to premiere at Cannes 2016, but won't rush it if the filmmaker isn't
satisfied.
Based on Shûsaku Endô's 1966 novel,
Silence, follows a pair of Portuguese Jesuit missionaries played by Garfield,
and Adam Driver, who travel to 17th century Japan to investigate the rumor that
their mentor played by Liam Neeson has abandoned the church, and claims of
religion persecution.
Scheduled to hit theaters in late
2016, Silence also stars Ciarán Hinds, Tadanobu Asano, Rich Graff, Yôsuke
Kubozuka, Yoshi Oida, and Issei Ogata.
