Last week we reported
that Paramount TV, Skydance TV, and Michael
Bay's Platinum Dunes production company had started a bidding war over a series
based on Tom Clancy's iconic character, Jack Ryan. Now, according to Variety,
Amazon has come out on top of the bidding frenzy, which also included such
networks like Fox, NBC, Netflix, and A&E.
Created
by Carlton Cuse (Lost) and Graham Roland (The Returned), the series won't be a direct adaptation of any specific novel in Clancy's
series of books about the popular CIA analyst, turned field agent, turned
President of the United States of America, but will instead be "acontemporary
take on the character in his prime as a CIA analyst/operative using the novels
as source material."
The character has been famously played once or twice over the years. Alec
Baldwin kicked things off with The Hunt For Red October. Harrison Ford followed
with Patriot Games, and Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck also gave a go at
playing the character in The Sum of All Fears, and last year it was Chris Pine.
