Oscar-nominated actor
Josh Brolin is joining Ryan Reynolds in 20th Century Fox's forthcoming Deadpool
sequel where he will play the mutant Cable opposite Reynolds' titular
character.
The search for an
actor to step into Cable's shoes has been going for a few months, with names
such as Michael Shannon and David Harbour being mentioned, with the former
almost nabbing the role, as well as rumors of conversations between Fox and
actors Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt.
For Brolin, Cable will
be his second time playing a Marvel character following his landing of the role
of Thanos in the MCU.
According to THR's
sources, the actor signed a four-film deal with Fox, meaning Cable is here to
stay.
John Wick co-director
David Leitch is directing the yet untitled film, which is set to go into
production this June in Vancouver.
Besides Reynolds,
Brolin joins Atlanta breakout star Zazie Beetz as the super powered mercenary Domino.
Created in mid 80's by Rob Liefeld and Louise Jones Simonson, Cable is the
son of X-Men leader Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey. His
powers (some via gadgets) include astral projection, blast power, force fields,
levitation, precognition, super strength, technopathy, telekinesis, telepathy, teleportation,
and time travel.
