The first trailer for
Kathryn Bigelow's Detroit has finally dropped.
Based on real life events, the highly anticipated
new film from The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty filmmaker is set against the backdrop of one of the most violent, deadly, and
destructive riots in American history where hundreds lost their lives (mostly
civilians) and well over a thousand were wounded (mostly civilians).
What came to be known as the 12th Street riots was a violent 5-day
confrontation in 1967's Detroit, between local community members (mostly African-Americans)
and the Detroit Police Department, Michigan State Police, Michigan Nation
Guard, and the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions (mostly White).
Opening in theaters on August 4, Detroit stars John Boyega, Chris
Chalk, John Krasinski, Anthony Mackie, Jason Mitchell, Will Poulter, Jack
Reynor, Ben O’Toole, Nathan Davis Jr., Kaitlyn Dever, Austin Hébert, Joseph
David-Jones, Malcolm David Kelley, Jeremy Strong, Jacob Latimore, Algee
Smith, Hannah Murray, Ephraim Sykes, Leon Thomas III, and Peyton Alex
Smith.
