Game of Thrones alum Alexander
Siddig is set to play legendary DC Comics' villain Ra's Al Ghul, the head of
the League of Shadows on Fox's Gotham series.
The iconic character is
expected to make his on-screen debut short after the series returns from its
later winter break, when young Bruce Wayne starts to uncover who is secretly controlling
the mysterious Court of Owls council.
Created by DC Comics writer Dennis
O'Neil and artist Neal Adams, Ra's Al Ghul's first appearance in the comics was
in 1971 with the publication of Batman #232 - Daughter Of The Demon!.
A fan favorite, Ra's Al Ghul
is the centuries-old leader of the League of Assassins, who seeks to purge
humanity of crime and corruption by any means possible. A frequent foe to
Batman and Arrow, the character has been put on screen one or two times, most noticeable
in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins, played by Liam Neeson, and on The CW's
Arrow, played by Matt Nable.
Siddig's acting credits also
include roles on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Kingdom of Heaven, Peaky Blinders,
24, and Syriana.
