Production house Emmett/Furla/Oasis
Films has put the wheels in motion for an Escape Plan sequel, with Sylvester
Stallone set to reprise his role as Ray Breslin, this time however in a
supporting capacity.
The 2013 action movie
grossed over $137M worldwide, with a large portion coming from China where it
earned just under $41M. As such, Escape Plan 2's financing will come from a
major Chinese company.
In the first movie,
Stallone's character, one of the world's
foremost authorities on structural security agrees to take on one last job:
breaking out of an ultra-secret, high-tech facility called "The
Tomb." Deceived and wrongly imprisoned, Ray (Stallone) must recruit fellow
inmate Emil Rottmayer (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to help devise a daring, nearly
impossible plan to escape from the most protected and fortified prison ever
built.
Pre-production will
begin January 15, for March 15 start of principal photography in Ohio and
China.
Miles Chapman, who
wrote the first movie, is writing script for the sequel, which Randall Emmett, Zack
Schiller, Mark Canton, and George Canton will once again produce.
