Paramount Pictures
has released a new featurette for Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond that delves
slightly deeper into Krall's (Idris Elba) hatred towards the Federation and the
USS Enterprise crew in association.
"What’s
interesting about him is that he has a real beef with what the Enterprise
stands for," Elba told EW a few months ago. "Krall’s a character
who’s deeply steeped in hatred — in my opinion, a well-earned hatred — for the
Federation. It felt quite political. There’s a relatability to what’s happening
in our world. Not everybody’s happy with what everybody calls the good guys."
Opening in theaters on July 22, Star Trek Beyond also stars Chris Pine,
Karl Urban, Sofia Boutella, Zoe Saldana, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Shohreh
Aghdasloo, John Cho, Deep Roy, Zachary Quinto, and Joe Taslim.
Star Trek Beyond, the highly anticipated next installment in the
globally popular Star Trek franchise created by Gene Roddenberry and
reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, sees the Enterprise crew exploring the furthest reaches of uncharted
space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything
the Federation stands for to the test.
