It's unclear exactly why, but Warner Bros. has decided
to reschedule two of their upcoming big projects, and add two new ones to
their slate of films to come.
Andy Serkis' motion-capture take on Rudyard Kipling's The
Jungle Book has been giving an extra year. Originally scheduled to premiere on
October 2017, the film will now open in theaters on October 19, 2018. The
decision gives Serkis some much needed additional time to work on the project,
but also puts more distance between the film, and Jon Favreau's The Jungle Book
(Disney), which opens next weekend, and is being lauded for its astonishing
CGI.
Taking over the film's original release date is
an "Untitled WB Event Film".
Serkis' The Jungle Book features an all-star cast that
includes Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Naomi
Harris.
From the jungles of India to the jungles of
Themyscira, Warner Bros. juggling act wasn't as severe as The Jungle Book,
quite the contrary. The studio has decided to move-up the release date for Patty
Jenkins' Wonder Woman, which will now open in theaters on June 2, 2017, instead
of June 23.
Originally set to fight against the fifth installment
in the Transformers franchise, the standalone superhero picture will now have
to battle with Sony's Bad Boys 3, and Fox's kid-friendly Captain Underpants for
box-office supremacy.
In addition to Wonder Woman news in the DC Universe,
Warner Bros. has also announced two "untitled DC films" for October
5, 2018, and November 1, 2019.
