Just days after wrapping Marvel's Doctor Strange,
Benedict Cumberbatch is back in front of the camera to film the long-awaited
fourth season of the highly popular television series, Sherlock.
In a statement, Sherlock co-showrunner Steven Moffat
hinted that the fourth season could be the beginning of the end for the World's
smartest private detective.
"Sherlock series four —
here we go again! Whatever else we do, wherever we all go, all roads lead back
to Baker Street, and it always feels like coming home. Ghosts of the past are
rising in the lives of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and terror and tragedy
are looming. This is the story we've been telling from the beginning and it’s
about to reach its climax."
The third season of Sherlock ended on a very puzzling
note with every video screen in the UK being broadcast a video or Moriarty (?)
asking Sherlock and everyone else if they missed him. Is he back? Is it a ploy created
by someone else to shake Sherlock? We will have to wait and see.
The synopsis for the new season has also been unveiled and
it reveals the addition of a small new cast member to the all ensemble.
"Season 4 begins
with the mercurial Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), back once more on
British soil as Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman) and his wife Mary (Amanda
Abbington) prepare for their biggest challenge yet: becoming parents."
Directing the first
episode of the fourth season is Tank Girl, and Doctor Who director Rachel
Talalay.
An official air date
has not been announced, but it should premiere sometime this fall or winter.
