After
passing on Marvel's Black Panther, Selma director Ava DuVernay is once again
being courted to direct a couple of high-profile projects, one of them starring
Academy Award winning actress Lupita Nyong'o, for two different studios.
According
to Deadline, Disney has offered the filmmaker A Wrinkle in Time, the adaptation
of Madeleine L'Engle's 1962 sci-fi fantasy novel of the same name, while Amblin
is looking at the director to helm Intelligent Life, a sci-fi thriller written
by Jurassic World's Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly.
A
Wrinkle in Time centers on a girl named Meg who with her small brother Charles,
and friend Calvin, go on a heart-stopping journey through space in search of
her scientist father who went missing while experimenting with time travel. Adapted
by Frozen co-writer and co-director Jennifer Lee, A Wrinkle in Time would
probably be the beginning of a new franchise for Disney.
Intelligent
Life on the other hand is perhaps a less visually exuberant project than A
Wrinkle in Time, as it follows a "U.N worker in a department designed to
represent mankind if there was ever contact with aliens, who falls for a
mysterious woman who turns out to be an alien." This project has Nyong'o
in talks to star in as the mysterious woman.
It's
unclear if scheduling will prevent the director from taking on both projects,
but it will be interesting to see which she chooses as her first big studio
project.
