Paramount Pictures
has decided to push Timur Bekmambetov's (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter)
remake of Ben-Hur from February 26, 2016 to a more profitable and much more reasonable
August 12, 2016, where big budget epics tend to live.
Also scheduled to hit
theaters on that day are Disney's Pete's Dragon, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill's rated-R
animation Sausage Party, and Universal's action/thriller Spectral, starring
James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer, and Bruce Greenwood. A week prior to that
Warner Bros. debuts their first superhero, or supervillain team-up movie,
Suicide Squad.
Ben-Hur stars Jack
Huston as the titular Judah Ben-Hur, Nazanin Boniadi as Esther, Morgan Freeman
as Ilderim, Toby Kebbell as Messala, Ayelet Zurer as Naomi, Moises Arias as Gestas,
Rodrigo Santoro as Jesus, Pilou Asbæk as Pontius Pilate, and Haluk Bilginer as
Simonides.
