The Fault in our
Stars and Paper Towns actor Nat Wolff has entered the final stages of
negotiations to star in Adam Wingard's (V/H/S) upcoming live action adaptation
of Takeshi Obata's popular manga series Death Note for Warner Bros.
According to Variety,
Wolff is set to play Light, a bored young genius who comes across a mysterious black
supernatural journal that kills anyone whose name he writes on it.
Death Note is an exhilarating
game of cat and mouse featuring a wide variety of characters, including (spoilers)
several serial killers doing what they believe is necessary to rid the world of
evil, shady Interpol agents and detectives, and Death Gods or Shinigamis.
As always I'm
skeptical of western adaptations of Asian, in this case Japanese manga, mainly
because so often it is infused with cultural and spiritual believes that can't
be adjusted to another culture without losing its significance or ending up
looking silly.
Death Note is a very
popular manga that was turned into a anime series and two live action movies in
Japan.
