After shinning next to Colin
Firth, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Caine, and Mark Strong in Matthew Vaughn's
Kingsman: The Secret Service, Taron Egerton is being sought out by Lionsgate to
star in the upcoming origin story of Sherwood's most noticeable thief, Robin
Hood: Origins.
Guy Ritchie's Knights of the
Round Table: King Arthur scribe Joby Harold penned the script for director Otto
Bathurst's (Peaky Blinders) origin story, which will see Robin Hood
returning home after fighting in the Crusades and forming a band of outlaws to
fight the corruption and evil that run rampant in Sherwood Forest.
Following
the box-office success of Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service 20th
Century Fox has quick to greenlit a sequel, which may cause some scheduling conflicts
for the actor to star in the Robin Hood project.
Robin Hood: Origins is not the
only project centered on the character that is currently in development. Disney
has something in the vein of Pirates of the Caribbean and Enchanted titled Nottingham
& Hood. Warner Bros. also has a project about the character in development,
while Sony bought a $1 million pitch titled Hood, which has been described as a
mix between Fast And Furious and Mission: Impossible.
Robin Hood: Origins is
expected to start production in the first quarter of 2016.
