No genre is box-office
bulletproof and The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones proved that even adaptations
based on popular books destined to young adults can fail. The film failed at everything it set out to do, so it's was quite surprising
when a few months ago it was announced that Cassandra Clare's popular YA book
series was getting redone not as another
film, but as a TV series instead.
Titled Shadowunters,
the 13-episode show centers on Clary Fray, who on her 18th birthday finds out
that she comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel hybrids who hunt
down demons.
Entertainment Weekly
has released three images from episodes two and three of the upcoming series
featuring Katherine McNamara as Clary, Dominic Sherwood as Jace, Matthew
Daddario as Alec, and Emeraude Toubia as Isabele.
Based on the six
best-selling young adult fantasy book series, Shadowhunters follows
18-year-old Clary Fray, who finds out on her birthday that she is not who she
thinks she is but rather comes from a long line of Shadowhunters — human-angel
hybrids who hunt down demons. When her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, Clary is
thrown into the world of demon hunting with mysterious Shadowhunter Jace and
her best friend, Simon. Now living among faeries, warlocks, vampires and
werewolves, Clary begins a journey of self-discovery as she learns more about
her past and what her future may hold.
