Currently in pre-production with director Scott
Derrickson scouting for locations to shoot in England, Marvel's Doctor Strange
will be a very different movie for the studio. Not only will it introduce the
Marvel Cinematic Universe to the supernatural, but it will also look very
distinct in a way that will please most of the character's fans.
Speaking at the BAFTA Masterclass in London, Guardians
of the Galaxy, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Doctor Strange cinematographer Ben
Davis briefly described the aesthetics of the film.

"Psychedelic grounding" certainly sounds
intriguing, though I'm not exactly sure what it means, or how it will look, but
one thing is certain, there will be a heavy amount of CGI.
"There’s a lot of previsualisation, and there’s a
lot of work which is very hard – you look at it and you see the imagery that
they’ve created for it and you think, ‘Well how the hell do we shoot that!?’ because
it’s all sort of Escher stuff."
Davis capped off his speech by revealing what kind of palette
he will be using in Doctor Stange.
"It’s all very out there. I can’t really say
much more about it, I’m afraid. But I think it’ll be really interesting, and
it’s a very dark movie, I’m pleased to say … DP’s always love the word ‘dark’.
The trouble is that most producers don’t like dark. Mostly you get into DI
[Digital Intermediate process] and people don’t seem to like dark anymore!"
Starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the titular role,
marvel's Doctor Strange will open on November 4, 2016.
