Earlier this week we
reported that Channing Tatum's negotiations to play Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit in 20th
Century Fox's X-Men universe had hit a snag that could have seen the 21 Jump
Street and Magic Mike star depart from the project, which he is also producing.
Today, however, it
seems that both parties have reached an agreement that will ease the friction
between actor and studio, who apparently wanted to turn Gambit into Wolverine,
meaning that they wanted Gambit to become the next major character in the X-Men
cinematic universe, appearing in both standalone projects as well as team
movies. Whether Tatum agreed to the multipicture deal or not is unknown at this
time.
Another problem as it
turns out was the backend compensation, though it unclear who got the short end
of that deal.
Scheduled to hit
theaters on October 8, 2016, Gambit will be directed by Rise of the Planet of
the Apes director Rupert Wyatt from a script penned by Josh Zetumer (RoboCop).
