Syfy has released the
first trailer for their upcoming series based on author Lev Grossman's
trilogy of fantasy books, The Magicians, which follows Quentin
Coldwater (Jason Ralph), a young man who heads into upstate New York to
frequent the secretive Brakebills
College for Magical Pedagogy, where he joins a league of powerful
magicians.
The pilot was directed by Mike Cahill (I, Origins), and written by Sera
Gamble, and John McNamara. Both Gamble and McNamara will executive produce the
12-episode series alongside Janice Williams, and Michael London from
Groundswell Productions.
The Magicians premieres in 2016 and also stars Stella Maeve (Julia), Arjun
Gupta (Penny), Hale Appleman (Eliot), Summer Bishil (Margo), and Sosie Bacon (Alice).
The Magicians stars Jason Ralph (A Most Violent Year,
Aquarius) as Quentin Coldwater, a brilliant grad student who enrolls in
Brakebills College for Magical Pedagogy, a secret upstate New York university
specializing in magic. He and his 20-something friends soon discover that the
magical fantasy world they read about as children is all too real – and
poses grave danger to humanity. Stella Maeve (Chicago P.D.), Hale
Appleman (Teeth), Arjun Gupta (Nurse Jackie) and Summer Bishil (Towelhead, Lucky 7) also
star in this one hour drama.
