After a ten year hiatus, is Blade the
daywalker ready to make a comeback? Well according to this report yes, and apparently
Wesley Snipes is in talks to return.
After
a 10 year hiatus, the “Blade” franchise will be returning to the big screen,
and actor Wesley Snipes is reportedly coming back to fill the boots of the
titular Marvel vampire hunter once again.
He’s being offered $3 million to reprise the role. Marvel did recently get the movie rights to Blade back from New Line Cinema, so only time will tell if this new film will be connected to the immensely popular Marvel Cinematic Universe. If so, Snipes would be the first actor to reprise a role in a Marvel franchise from before the MCU was formed.
I'm not keen on nitpicking, but
Marvel isn't known for divulging what their deals with actors, directors, etc..
are, so take with a grain of salt the scoop of Wesley Snipes being offered $3
million to reprise his role.
As for Wesley Snipes returning, I doubt
that because Marvel has a certain age in mind for their lead heroes, and Snipes
at 52 doesn't quite fit. Also I believe that if another Blade movie is to be made,
it would probably be a reboot, and not a sequel, because the last movie, Blade:
Trinity is ten years old, and it's considered to be the weakest in the franchise, so a fresh start is probably in order.
Also (and as the article points out)
the previous movies don't belong to Marvel so it would be difficult to have a coherent
Blade franchise if the next film couldn't use any of what was established in
the previous movies because they are copyrighted to the other studio.
Now! is Marvel developing drafts, or
just outlining a basic story for a new Blade movie, sure, Marvel Studios has a writing
department dedicated to writing drafts for possible future movies, in fact
that's how Guardians of the Galaxy came about, so I'm sure they are working on
a Blade movie, as they probably are on a Ms. Marvel movie, Black Panther,
Inhumans, and countless others characters and titles.
