Director
Peyton Reed's first Marvel movie, Ant-Man seams to be a big departure
(not unlike other Marvel movies) from its source material, but while
it looks like we will have a different Hank Pym, and Janet Van Dyne,
it seams that we will see a more or less faithful adaptation of the
Scott Lang's character, played by Paul Rudd.
While
at SDCC Screen Rant tracked down Reed confirmed that Lang's daughter,
Cassie, would be appearing in the upcoming film.
“The
thematic arc is really like a sort of passing of the torch movie. I
mean the idea of Michael Douglas, and Paul Rudd are playing this kind
of bent mentor and pupil.
Paul
Rudd's character is an ex-con, he's a thief, that's appealing to me,
so it has that aspect, and it also has the structure like a heist
movie, which is really good, and there is also a real personal
dynamic to the movie too. In the comics Scott Lang has a daughter,
and that's part of the movie too. In terms of the character dynamics
that are going on that really appealed to me.”
The
director also spoke about having a character that commands an army of
ants.
“You
see the Ant-Man poster and stuff, and you go like – Ants?! What
would you do if you could command an army of ants or fly on an ant? -
and I think the movie is going to answer that question. The great
thing about ants is that...he has created the helmet where he can
control them, and it's like mobilizing an army, and they can have
access to certain places that we wouldn't be able to, or the flying
around...it's almost like being invisible, just being able to get
somewhere without being noticed.”
Ant-Man
stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Evangeline Lilly, and Corey Stoll.
