While still in its
infancy, the Spider-Man spin-offs are moving ahead, with Alex Kurtzman
directing and co-writing Venom and Drew Goddard writing and directing The
Sinister Six and now that we know that both films will be released before The
Amazing Spider-Man 4, rumors are beginning to surfaced.
The most recent rumor
concerns Kurtzman's Venom movie and its cast. According to Cinematallica, an
inside source says that actor Finn Wittrock (Noah) is on the top of Sony's list
to play the lead and fan favorite Alan Tudyk (Firefly) is up to play Carnage.
"Finn Wittrock is the current frontrunner for
prickly Daily Bugle reporter Eddie Brock, our future titular antihero and oft
thorn in the side of Spidey. Who?!? Finn is currently gracing
screens in Darren Aronofsky’s Noah as the younger version of Ray
Winstone’s antagonist, Tubal-Cain. He will also be appearing in a larger
capacity in Angelina Jolie’s Unbroken. So what do we
take away from this? That Sony is looking to cast an up-and-comer in the
role. Someone on the verge of “making it” that they can get for cheap and
sign for a multi-film contract for their burgeoning Spider-Man Saga.
For Cletus Kasady, the psychotic serial killer
destined to become the villainous Carnage, the powers that be are reportedly
courting Alan Tudyk. This makes a ton of sense. Not only is Tudyk a
magnet for fanboy appreciation and a good actor, but he’s also
affordable. This is absolutely in line with the casting decisions that
have made thus far for villains. Even if Tudyk isn’t the one ultimately
creating maximum damage, expect someone of similar stature in the part."
Now remember that at this time these are just rumors
and no official statement has been made.
