Disney has announced the
casting of Nathan Fillion, Lea DeLaria, and Kerry Washington in the third Cars
animated feature film.
The trio of actors
joins returning members Owen Wilson as Lightning McQueen, Bonnie Hunt as Sally
Carrera, Cheech Marin as Ramone, Tony Shalhoub as Luigi, Katherine Helmond as
Lizzie, Paul Dooley as Sarge, Larry the Cable Guy as Mater, and new members Armie
Hammer as Jackson Storm, and Cristela Alonzo as Cruz Ramirez.
Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers,
the legendary Lightning McQueen is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves.
To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race
technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from
the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that
#95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s
biggest stage!
"We’re introducing some fun and really appealing
characters in Cars 3, so we really
wanted to find the right voices to help us breathe life into them,"
director Brian Fee said in a statement. "We hit a homerun with this group;
I couldn’t be happier."
Washington will play
Natalie Certain, a highly respected analyst who shines in her capability to
determine a racer's data, but undervalues the importance of determination.
DeLaria will voice
Miss Fritter, an intimidating school bus who is a bit of a local legend, partially
due to her size, but mostly because of her smokestack, super-sharp stop sign,
and ridiculous collection of her victims' license plates.
Fillion will play
Sterling, a smart, "well-dressed", and driven business car, who makes
sure his investments pay off.
Cars 3 opens in
theaters on June 16.
