At this year's San
Diego Comic-Con, Marvel unveiled several props from Taika Waititi's Thor:
Ragnarok including Hulk-sized gladiator style armor and weapon, thus confirming
the long-lasting rumors that the film will indeed feature elements of the well-known
Planet Hulk storyline.
Now, speaking to
Total Film (via MCU Exchange), the director confirmed that Sakaar, the alien
planet in Planet Hulk, will be featured in the upcoming film.
"Sakaar was just an
insane, far-off, futuristic place which was the biggest shift for the film and
these characters…I was really excited when Kevin [Feige] and the rest
of Marvel jumped on board with the idea to use [Jack] Kirby as a big
influence in the design of the film. What’s
really hard is staying authentic."
In Planet Hulk, after being shot into space by S.H.I.E.L.D. in the
hopes that he would find an uninhabited planet to live on, Hulk's ship inadvertently
is sucked into a wormhole and crash-lands on Sakaar, a ruthless planet ruled by
the corrupt Red King. There, Hulk becomes a slave, forced to fight as a
gladiator in the Imperial Arena.
Opening in theaters on November 3, 2017, Thor: Ragnarok stars Chris
Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchett, Karl Urban, Tessa
Thompson, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, and Idris Elba.
