Back
in June, Legion showrunner Noah Hawley (“Fargo” series) revealed
that the series wouldn't be a part of the larger X-Men universe even
though it does focus on Charles Xavier's son David Heller.
Now,
while at the Edinburgh Television Festival, Legion executive producer
and X-Men writer/producer/director Bryan Singer clarified Hawley's
comments while at the same time offering new teasing information.
"Singer
discussed Legion, which he is executive producing for FX, saying
it is designed to be a series that is "part of the X-Men universe,
but when you watched it, you wouldn’t have to label it, it could
exist completely on its own." He said it and another
planned X-Men series "will relate to future X-Men
movies." And he added it would feature a “really ambitious and
fun and very unique storyline."
A
multi-platform shared universe is a tricky thing to pull off, mainly
because it requires a mind-boggling level of control over schedueling
since film tends to be several steps behind the fast-paced TV, so it
will be interesting to see how and when both will meet.
Premiering
sometime in early 2017, Legion stars Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza,
Rachel Keller, Jean Smart, Jeremie Harris, Amber Midthunder, Katie
Aselton, and Bill Irwin.
