It came to everyone's
attention recently that Kevin Reilly, TNT's newly appointed president, had
decided to not pursuit the live-action series based on the Teen Titans comic
book series published by DC Comics.
Called Titans, the
show would have followed Dick Grayson's transition from Robin to Nightwing and
the formation of the Titans superhero group, a team of young heroes that
included Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy, and many other familiar faces.
Now, speaking to The
Hollywood Reporter, Reilly offered an explanation as to why he decided to pass
on the show.
Akiva
[Goldsman] is a talented guy, [but] the script just wasn't there. There is an
unbelievable glut of superhero things in the market right now and if you have a
really good one, clearly people are up for it. But I just don't think that
there's a need for one that, for me, at least on paper didn't seem to be
screaming to get made.
With so many quality superhero
shows currently airing on TV, and many still on the way, putting effort and
resources into making something that could have failed by not standing out from
the rest would have been pointless. Therefore, while I'm not thrilled that we
won't be seeing a new breed of superheroes on TV, I understand the decision to
let go.
