One of the many appealing things about the Fast and
Furious movies is the constant change of location. The franchise has taken us
on a high-speed tour of many "exotic" locations such as Abu Dhabi in the
United Arab Emirates, Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, or Tokyo in Japan, and now it
seems we can add Cuba to the globetrotting experience.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, director F. Gary
Gray (Straight Outta Compton) has returned from a scouting trip in Cuba and Universal
is already taking care of the necessary paperwork.
Universal Pictures is
currently in the process seeking approval from the United States and Cuban
governments to explore shooting a portion of the next installment of the Fast & Furious series in Cuba.
If everything goes
according to plan, Furious 8 will be the first major Hollywood studio project to
film in the country since the 1960s embargo. Other locations being eyed at
this moment include Russia and Iceland.
Furious 8 premieres
on April 14, 2017, with Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese
Gibson, Ludacris, and Jason Statham. Following Paul Walker's tragic death,
Jordana Brewster, who played his wife in the franchise, says she isn't sure if
she will return or not.
