Paramount Pictures
and Skydance Production have announced that Justin Lin's Star Trek Beyond will now
open on July 22, 2016, and not July 8. The reason it seems is that the studios
have found a nice opening in the IMAX schedule when they will not have any real
competition.
This isn't the first
time both companies resorted to changing the release dates so they would have the
larger venues all to themselves. The same happen to the latest Mission:
Impossible movie, Rogue Nation, but back then it was a more radical change since it
moved from December to July.
Star Trek Beyond is
already in production with returning cast members Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto,
Simon Pegg, Karl Urban, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and newcomers Idris
Elba, Lydia Wilson, Joe Taslim and Sofia Boutella.
