Because we desperately
needed to know how Bryan Mills acquired his particular set of skills and telephone
manners, NBC has started to develop a Taken prequel series with franchise
creator Luc Besson attached as a producer.
As you might have guessed,
the series will not have Mills go up against a serial kidnapper, because having
twenty-something girls being kidnapped every season is ridiculous, it will
instead focus on the character's origin, a young CIA agent and with no family ties, but wait, it will be set in modern days. Yes, NBC is apparently throwing the timeline out the window
because who knows. It's probably due to budget constraints I would assume.
This isn't the first
project NBC has acquired from Besson and his company, EuropaCorp. The short-lived
Taxi Brooklyn, a spinoff of the Taxi franchise was one other project both
companies previously collaborated on. Other Besson movies that were turned into
TV series were La Femme Nikita, and Transporter.
