Earlier this week P.L. Travers rolled in her grave
when news that a new movie based on her famous creation, Mary Poppins, was being
developed at Disney. Not a remake nor a direct sequel, the new movie will be based
on the seven remaining novels in Travers' children book series.
Now Den of Geek is hearing that Disney is looking at
Edge of Tomorrow, Into the Woods, and Sicario star Emily Blunt to take on the
leading role first played by Julie Andrews in the 1964 classic. It's unclear
how many other actresses are being looked at for the role, but the site claims
that Blunt "may even be the frontrunner."
To bring the project to life Disney has tapped Rob Marshall,
who previously worked with Blunt on Into The Woods. Marshall's filmography
includes Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha, Nine, and Pirates of the Caribbean: On
Stranger Tides.
